Concord Historical Commission

Good news! 

We are beginning a year-long Community-wide Historic Preservation Planning project with the help of preservation consultant Heritage Strategies, LLP. 

The plan will support the integrated, cross-disciplinary approach of Concord's community plan Envision Concord, Bridge to 2030 (2018) as well as national goals of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission which is "charged with orchestrating the largest and most inclusive observance in our nation's history" in 2025 and 2026.

Mission Statement

The Historical Commission was created by an Act of the 1973 Town Meeting, in accordance with Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 40, Section 8D. By state law, the Historical is established "for the preservation, protection and development of the historical and archeological assets of the...town. Such commission shall conduct researches for places of historical and archeological value, shall cooperate with the state archeologist...and shall seek to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes, and may advertise, prepare, print and distribute books, maps, plans and pamphlets which it deems necessary for its work."

National Standards and Guidelines for Historic Preservation

The Secretary of the Interior provides Standards and Guidelines for the treatment of historic properties and cultural landscapes which guide preservation efforts across the country.
