Project Overview

The goal of the Town’s annual crack sealing program is to extend the life span of the existing roadway. Cracks naturally develop in asphalt due to oxidation and pavement deterioration.  Crack sealing is a necessary maintenance procedure in order to prolong the life of a roadway, by preventing excess water from penetrating the roadway surface and migrating into the sub-base material, which is a major cause of pavement failure. 

Project Schedule:

Utilizing the updated Street scan survey data, Engineering staff is currently developing a list of streets to receive crack sealing during the 2022 construction season. Streetlogix software produces recommendations based on the condition of the roadway as well as a prioritization plan. Evaluations of these recommendations are being done to ensure crack sealing is the proper maintenance procedure.  

This contract was put out to bid in February with the Bid opening on March 10^th. Superior Sealcoat, Inc. of Wilmington Ma was the lowest bidder, and has since been awarded the contract for $38,458.00 which includes almost 10 miles of roadway. CPW is currently in the process of executing the contracts with the contractor. Construction is scheduled to begin in late spring and continue through the construction season.
