[ARCHIVED] Concord’s Curbside Collection Program for Solid Waste & Recycling is Changing!

Concord’s Curbside Collection Program for Solid Waste & Recycling is Changing!

Beginning in October 2024, the Town will be migrating to an automated curbside collection model and single stream recycling.

Each subscriber to the program will be issued a 35-gallon green Waste Management toter for solid waste and a 96-gallon green Waste Management toter with a yellow top for recycling.

**Please note-subscribers must have paid for their October-March subscription in order to receive their toters.  Invoices will be mailed out in early September**

To manage occasional overflow trash, two orange disposal tags will be able to be purchased for each additional 35-gallon bag.

Over the past two years Concord Public Works, with the assistance and support of the Public Works Commission, has carefully evaluated the current solid waste and recycling curbside program, which has not seen substantial change in over twenty years, taking into account feedback that has been received from residents and trends in the solid waste and recycling industry .  Careful consideration has been given regarding the convenience for users, the level of service provided, the cost, and the sustainability of the program.  Moving to automated collection will result in newer trucks with better emissions.  It will reduce the program's operational costs by increasing efficiency through reduced collection times. A 35-gallon cart for solid waste still helps Concord achieve their goals of waste reduction and allows for continued participation in the MassDEP PAYT (Pay-As-You-Throw) program, while a  larger, 96-gallon, container for recyclables encourages recycling.
