Time of Day Rate Opt Out Form

Thinking about opting out?

Before you decide, remember that Time-of-Day (TOD) rates are designed to help you save money by shifting usage to off-peak hours. Please keep in mind that the rates going into effect in April 2026 are Phase I rates, with a smaller differential between time periods to help customers get accustomed to the new billing structure and implement any measures they wish to shift load away from peak hours. Phase II rates will likely go into effect in 2027 and will have a larger differential between time periods. Check out our rate calculator to see how these rates will impact your bill and review your options before making a choice.

The Opt out rate is designed to be simple and predictable, but it is priced to be about 4% higher than the TOD rate for the “average” customer. This reflects the fact that TOD customers help reduce costs by shifting electricity use away from peak hours.

All residential customers currently on the R-1 rate will be switched to the TOD rate on April 1, 2026 unless an opt-out form is completed. We encourage you to try the TOD rate if you’re interested, knowing that you can opt out if it doesn’t work for you.

There is no penalty or fee to leave the TOD rate. However, to provide stability for both customers and CMLP, once you move to the Opt Out rate, your account must remain on that rate for 12 months before you are eligible to switch back to the TOD rate.

If you choose to leave the TOD rate, your new rate will take effect on the next billing cycle.

The TOD rate works best for customers who can shift some electricity use to off-peak hours, but customers always have a choice. We encourage customers to review their usage patterns and decide which rate is the best fit for their household. Our goal is to give customers flexibility and choice.
