Mattress Recycling

As of November 1, 2022 Mattresses are added to the list of materials banned from disposal or transport for disposal in Massachusetts.

Concord offers two options for residents to recycle their mattresses:

For Curbside Pickup: The Town of Concord has partnered with UTEC.  UTEC is offering curbside pickup once a month at a cost of $45 per item (mattress and box spring are two items), and payment is made directly to UTEC online.

On the day of pickup, the mattress should be placed on the curb by 7am.  Drivers will not enter private property in an effort to collect mattresses or box springs left on porches, behind locked gates or other instances.

To register for a pickup, go to https://utecinc.org/mattress-recycling/ , select "schedule service" and select "Concord".  The available dates residents can choose from will be highlighted.

For Drop Off: Residents can schedule an appointment at the Solid Waste & Recycling Division of Concord Public Works (978) 318-3240, and drop off mattresses and box springs for recycling at the Compost Site at 755 Walden Street during the operating hours of 3-6 PM on Wednesdays and 9 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays.  The fee to recycle a mattress at the Compost Site is a total of two (2) sheets of disposal tags per item (box spring and mattress are separate items).

Did you know?

Mattresses are made up almost entirely of recyclable materials. Once disassembled, more than 75 percent of mattress components can be recycled.

By reducing disposal, the waste bans also help us capture valuable resources, save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lessen our reliance on landfills and incinerators.
